Tips for Running with a Baby Jogger
Running with a baby jogger can be a rewarding way to maintain your fitness while spending time with your child. Coach Annika Braun from McMillan Running shares practical advice to make stroller running more enjoyable and effective.
1. Leave the GPS at Home
Pushing a stroller adds extra weight and can slow your pace. To avoid frustration, consider turning off your GPS watch or focusing on the duration of your run rather than speed. Remember, you're pushing 40+ pounds, so be kind to yourself.
2. Choose a Quiet Route
Opt for less busy roads or neighborhoods to ensure safety for both you and your child. Avoiding traffic reduces stress and potential hazards. If possible, select routes without hills to make the run more manageable.
3. Find a Comfortable Running Position
Experiment with hand placement on the stroller's handlebar to find what's most comfortable for you. Some runners prefer using one hand, while others use both for better control. Utilize the safety wrist strap to stay connected to the stroller. Start with short runs to get accustomed to the new setup.
4. Ensure Your Baby's Comfort
Make sure your child is securely strapped in, well-fed, and dressed appropriately for the weather. Bringing along toys or playing music can help keep them entertained. Coach Braun shares that music helped soothe her child during runs.
