Race times and equivalent performances

The calculator shows equivalent race performances across distances, based on the result you entered. Here's how to read them.

What are Race Times?

Race Times are equivalent performances calculated from the result you entered. They show what comparable fitness could look like across different race distances.

Are my equivalent Race Times predictions?

They're estimates, not guarantees. Equivalent fitness doesn't mean you're equally prepared for every distance. You might have the fitness associated with a given marathon result, for example, but still need marathon-specific training and endurance to achieve it.

Why might my actual race time be different from the calculated time?

Race performance depends on more than fitness. Course difficulty, weather, pacing, fueling, race-specific preparation, experience, and fatigue can all influence the result.

Why am I better at some distances than the calculator suggests?

Every runner has individual strengths. Some naturally perform better at shorter distances, others as the race gets longer. Your own race history is the best guide to whether you lean speed-oriented or endurance-oriented.

Can I use an equivalent race time as my new goal?

You can use it as a reference when considering a goal, but an equivalent performance isn't automatically an appropriate goal. Weigh your recent training, race-specific preparation, experience, available training time, and the demands of the target race.
